Stained Glass Crayon Melt Art Kids Craft {St Patrick’s Day}

The last time I created any sort of art with melted crayons was way back in elementary school – and it was just as fun now as it was then 🙂 This is a great craft for kids to make (with your help since an iron is involved), it’s easy and quick! Since my little one is too young to help out with this craft, I made these ones all on my own and I quite enjoyed it!

What you’ll need:

– Crayons (broken pieces are fine. Make sure they are unwrapped)

– Wax paper

– Parchment paper

– Iron

– Scissors

– Cardstock/construction paper

– Glue

– String or ribbon

1. Crush or shave your crayon pieces into as small a size as you can. Sharpening them and using the shavings work really well.

2. Place your crayon bits on a piece of wax paper and place another piece of wax paper on top. I recommend putting a piece of parchment paper between the ironing board and the bottom piece of wax paper. You can also place another piece of parchment paper on top of the wax paper – so between that and the iron. I found that my wax did not melt as quick this way though so I removed the top sheet of parchment paper then ironed.

3. Iron all over your sheet until the wax has melted, keep your iron on the highest heat setting that you have.

4. Next cut out the silhouettes that you want to use for your stained glass ornaments. I was making these particular ones for St Patrick’s Day so I made a shamrock and a rainbow. Make sure you cut through 2 pieces of paper so you have 2 identical pieces.

5. Next cut your sheet of wax paper so it fits right into your “frame.” I traced the shape onto the wax paper, cut it out and then trimmed it so it was slightly smaller than the frame. This made it fit perfectly inside without any edges sticking out. Glue the frame together, punch a hole in the top and hang it with a piece of string.
