So I Got a Cricut for Christmas, Now What

Cricut Gypsy BundleMy absolutely amazing husband got me the Cricut Gypsy Bundle for Christmas.  I was so excited to finally get a Cricut and start playing with it. First thing I did was put a piece of paper in and cut our name.  Then I proceeded to peel off the cut outs from the cutting mat, and they tore and curled.  They were useless.  I didn’t realized all the additional tools I would need in order to use my Cricut properly.  Silly me!

Well I spoke with Jess about the issues I was having with it,and she said I needed to get the Cricut Tool Kit.  Ok great.  So I started searching for those.  I found one at WalMart for $19, but I see that there are better sets on Amazon for less, so I am still choosing which one I am going to get.

Next I decide to ask my daughter, Becca about what they use at the hospital with their Cricut.  She is a volunteer at the Women’s hospital and one of the things she does is make names for the NICU windows.  They use a Cricut to cut out vinyl letters and decorations to decorate the rooms window walls to add a little cheer.  They have a full size Cricut, where mine is a the personal size.  She tells me that they use all the tools as well and that makes a HUGE difference.

So now I am really searching for tools, supplies and cartridges as I really want to learn how to use it best.  I am so excited to make a bunch of things for Gabe’s and Becca’s high school graduation this May and my husbands family reunion, which my in-laws are hosting next year.  Since I know I can’t be the only one who is a little lost at how best to use my Cricut and secret tips and tricks, I decided to start documenting the whole messy process.  The good, the bad and the ugly.  I will be taking video as well, so hopefully someone can learn from my mistakes and perhaps a more talented Cricut user will correct me with their wisdom.

If you have any tips, tricks, tools or tutorials you recommend for me, please share!

Here’s to my little Cricut Adventure!

  1. Congratulations! I have only had my Cricut Expression for a few months and am learning slowly but surely by trial and error. I found several tips on what settings to use with what paper. You can find them under the “good to know” tab on my blog. http://michelescraftroom.blogspot.com/  This is a great way to use your scraps too! Oh yeah, there are hundreds of videos on You Tube. One of my favorites is Robyn with My Pink Stamper. Good luck to you and feel free to email me with any questions. Maybe we can help each other!
