Today we will be working on drawer organization – so go ahead and pick a drawer – any drawer! I’m sure we all have one of those wonderful “junk” drawers right? The one where odds and ends just keep accumulating for some reason. Let’s be honest, most of us probably have a couple of these drawers. It’s the little things that we find lying around and think “oh I can probably use this later” and in the drawer it goes, or “What the heck is this?… I’ll ask hubby about it later, he probably knows”, in the drawer it goes.  Well that’s the problem cause in the drawer it usually stays….for-ever! Time to clean the crap out!

Today’s Task

Choose a drawer (if you are feeling overly ambitious today, then choose 2 or 3. Why not live on the wild side!)

Completely empty the drawer into the box labeled “Keep”

Shake the drawer out into a trash can or if it’s dusty go ahead and vacuum it out. Then wipe it down with a damp cloth and get it nice and clean. It’s always so much nicer to properly organize a freshly clean drawer!

Depending on what kind of drawer this is that you are working on, you may want to use some sort of drawer organizer. Check below in our pinterest gallery for ideas on easy drawer organizers.

Now you need to go through the contents of your newly filled box. Remember the old saying: “Make a place for everything and keep everything in it’s place”

Also keep in mind that if you haven’t used it in over a year, you don’t know what it is, or if it’s expired, then it’s probably a good idea to toss it.

Sort through the stuff and place each item in one of your other labeled boxes. If you don’t need it anymore but can sell it (ebay, craigslist, garage sale, etc) place it in the “sell” box. If it is still in good condition and someone else might be able to use it then “donate.” And of course, throw away as much as you can if it’s no longer good. Whatever is left in your “keep” box, you can now sort through and figure out what belongs back in the drawer. I’m sure you’ll find things that should be put away in other places in your house instead.
