Today we are going to be organizing kids toys! Woohoo! Are you as tired as I am of seeing toys absolutely everywhere all over the house? We have now confined most of our daughters toys to her bedroom in bins which is working out great!

So yes, my magic word for you today is this: bins. They will be your friend, I promise. You can find them in various sizes at the dollar store, or in even larger sizes at Target, Walmart, Home Depot, etc. I got a great deal on some bins at Walmart recently for only $3.47 each. Time to stock up at that price!

Periodically I recommend going through your kids toys and purging. If they are old enough, get them to do it with you and together you can pull out any broken or unsafe toys and toss those. Ask your child to choose several toys that can be donated for other kids to enjoy. For all the remaining toys, separate them into various bins. All legos can be together in a bin, all stuffed animals together either in an open top bin or you can get one of those nifty hammocks and string that up in a corner. It’s a real space saver! If you have the wall space, I recommend these cool bin organizer units:

Now if only I could teach my 1 year old to put all her toys back in her bins! She’s great at taking them all out. 🙂

Here are a few pictures of my daughters room and how I organized it. It will continue to be a work in progress as she gets older.

On either side of the chair I have those big green open top bins from Ikea. One of them is full of mostly stuffed animals right now and the other has her fisher price toys and other toys. The rolling cart is filled with blankets of all sorts. I also have storage bins (also from Ikea) under her crib as well. They have clothes in them that are still too big for her.

Her bookshelf! Also from Ikea – I love this bookshelf, we have 3 of them throughout our house. Right now it is mostly full of books, she has a huge library already. The 2 bottom right cubes have storage cubes in them filled with more toys. And yes, that is a fish tank up there 🙂
