For our family, having time in the morning, to sit, talk, and plan our day, or our week is important and since bacon is our favorite food, I strongly believe Bacon is the Dessert of the Meat family, I try to make sure that our breakfast time is a meal that we can all enjoy, and feel more like a celebration of the day rather than the start to a to-do list. Hormel’s BLACK LABEL® Bacon features exceptional varieties that never compromise on quality or taste and help me to be sure that my breakfast is going to turn out with fantastic taste! This includes traditional bacon varieties, fully cooked bacon, thick cut bacon & Canadian bacon.

So for National Family Meals Month I decided that I needed to come up with a recipe that was a little more “bacony” than usual… and I think I accomplished that… So here you go, Bacon Crusted Breakfast Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 package Hormel Black Label Bacon
  • 1 cup preheated Hashbrowns
  • 1/2 cup Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1/2 cup Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/2 cup slightly cooked chopped Hormel Black Label Bacon
  • 6 eggs beaten, then slightly cooked – should be like chunky soup (see video above)
  • Parchment Paper (optional, but makes cleanup SO MUCH easier)
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions make sense when you watch the video as well as follow along the written directions.

1 – Weave bacon into pie crust
2 – Make a layer of Hashbrowns
3 – sprinkle about 1/2 of your mozzarella cheese on top of the hashbrowns
4 – sprinkle most of the partially cooked chopped bacon on top of the mozzarella
5 – sprinkle about 1/2 of your cheddar cheese on top of the bacon
6 – now pour your partially cooked scrambled eggs on top. The reason for using partially cooked scrambled eggs is simply so the eggs don’t all run to the bottom of your pie and make one solid filling, you want some texture and separation of layers, so having the partially cooked scrambled eggs, will allow for a top egg layer.
7 – add rest of your cheeses and chopped bacon
8 – watch video to see how to fold up your bacon from the edges to the top and cover the top
9 – place pie plate in cake pan, cover with foil, cook at 400 degrees for 20 minutes
10 – raise temp of oven to 425, loosen foil, cook for 15 minutes
11 – take out of oven – slightly tilt your cake pan so the grease drips into the cake pan and out of your pie pan. Take pie pan out and let sit for 5 minutes. Cut. Eat. Enjoy.
